Surrey Homeowner Asks . . . Does his room really need to be empty of furniture to have the carpet stretched?
While stretching carpet in a few rooms for a homeowner in Surrey he asked me if there was any way the carpets in his master bedroom could be stretched without moving the bed. The answer is NO! Although we tried, after moving the chests of drawers he built a framework around the bed using 4″X4″s and a 4″X6″ so the power stretcher had a place to stretch from at the end of the bed.
The result . . . the room was stretched, YES, it took three times longer to stretch in one direction only rather than the two directions that is normally done. The homeowner was very happy, only thing is the time he saved in moving the furniture I spent double the time stretching the carpet. Will it happen again? Likely, every once in a while I relent and try it again only to reminded that the furniture really does need to be completely removed from a room to stretch the carpets.It doesn’t matter what anyone says, the furniture has to be out of the room to stretch the carpet properly, just like when you first had the carpet installed.
