Not all carpets can be dyed

After paying $200 dollars for an attempted carpet dyeing in an apartment she was vacating Elizabeth called me. The bleach stain repair was 12” X 16” and she had extra carpet so it was routine.  What was unusual was that because the carpet was nylon the dyeing should have worked.  What most people are not aware of is that most carpet cannot be dyed.  Both polyester and polypropylene carpet(olefin) cannot be dyed after manufacture, only nylon carpet can be dyed post manufacture.  Although wool carpet can be post manufacture dyed, if it needs to be dyed usually a repair is more economical. So before you call for carpet dyeing, consider what would be easier. If you have extra carpet or carpet in a closet that can be used, you will only pay once for the repair, not twice for an unsuccessful dyeing attempt ultimately requiring a repair anyway.
