How to tell if your carpet needs re-stretching

Without the obvious ripples-wrinkles-humps in your carpet, how can you tell if your carpet is loose and needs re-stretching?  A quick simple test will reveal the answer to you . . .

Using an awl (looks like a screw driver with a pointy tip) push the tip of the awl through your carpet in an open area.  Lift the carpet with the awl about one inch, extract the awl and watch the carpet descend to the floor.  If the carpet drops quickly into place it is stretched properly.  If the carpet appears to float slowly to the floor, your carpet is loose and requires re-stretching.  A quick, very simple test.  Thanks for reading,  Chris
