Where do I get a piece of carpet for a repair?

So often I get asked on the phone, where do I get a piece of carpet for a repair? Usually this is from a tennant moving out of a rental suite and doing the right thing, repairing some small damage in the carpet. Most homeowners have spare carpet from when the carpet was installed, most rental suites do not have that advantage. Or if there is a spare piece of carpet in a suite it is used as a door matt and in such bad condition it cannot be used for a repair piece.

never been walked on and has no sun fade. But it is the closest match you will ever find, and if you get a piece of carpet that is close in appearance that can go in the closet.  And you would be amazed to find that the difference just blends in the smaller the repair is.

In the picture to the right I cut carpet for a repair from the very back and the left side, can you see it? The piece the homeowner supplied didn’t match well for height or colour however the repair just disappears in the shaded hidden recesses of the back of the closet.

Some rooms of carpet don’t have closets, now what? Sometimes we can take a small piece of carpet from under a baseboard heater. Recently we did a repair in a home that had been a movie set where the carpet in the room was stretched to find a piece of carpet that could be used as a repair piece. There is usually a solution that just hasn’t been thought of, give me a call and we’ll do our very best to find a solution to you carpet repair problem.

Will I See The Seams In A Carpet Insert?

Will I see the seams of the carpet repair when it is done?.  If this isn’t the most common question I get when making a carpet repair then it is the second most asked question I get.  And rightly so, you are concerned whether or not the

Seamless Carpet Repair

Seamless Carpet Repair

carpet repair is going to show after it has been completed.  My answer is always the same.  It’s not the seams you will see, the only thing you will see is the difference in colour and texture between the new piece of carpet installed and the carpet around it.  The first picture to the right is of an insert carpet repair recently completed in Vancouver.  You cannot see the seams, you can see where the seams are because of the slight difference in colour.  The inserted piece of carpet for this repair was removed from a closet which had not seen the light of day and had never been walked on to change the colour.

This is a tight looped carpet making it a difficult repair to complete.  Difficult because cutting along the lines of the carpet after it has been walked on over years of traffic makes the natural lines difficult to follow.  A good cut along the natural lines of the carpet when both removing the carpet and the inserted piece is what makes a good seam.

Carpet Repair Small-Loop

Carpet Repair Small-Loop

In this picture to the left the repair is much smaller and the carpet used to make this repair was taken from the carpet removed from the repair in the first picture.  Same traffic patterns so same wear and same colour, this carpet repair was invisible to the owner.  You can see how small the carpet loops are in the picture, and if you look really closely you may see the edges of the repair.

Bragging rights always come from a repair like this, and it is always the goal to make the repair as invisible as possible in every carpet repair.  The appearance always depends on the quality of the carpet given to be inserted where the damaged carpet was removed.
